Learner Surfboard

Dont be caught buying  DEPARTMENT STORE Learner surfboard.  They are poorly manufactured,  fall apart and  often too flexible ( no stringers). The boards we sell at Jay Sails are mostly Global brands,  boards that are sold at major surfshops around the world.   Brands like Mick Fanning softboards, Ocean and earth  and Global surf industries ( GSI ). The boards are manufactured in controlled conditions with strict quality control.  USED BY SURF SCHOOLS AROUND THE COUNTRY!

As much as you would like a nice fibreglass board you may be well better with a very stable , high volume  soft top learner surfboard. Generally trying to match your body weight in litres to board and long enough to touch nose with outstretched hand . Generally the bigger the better.
Longboards will help you catch waves easily,  shorter funboards ( but still over 7 foot)   will let you progress further if you have taken a few lessons before making your purchase.

  • Longboards are best for the basics of paddling, popping up, and riding a wave, but are difficult in furthering your progression.
  • Funshapes are slightly more difficult in terms of paddling, popping up, and riding a wave, but they provide a surfboard that can act as both a beginner surfboard that will allow for more progression into your turns, their versatility helping you to breach from a beginner surfer into an intermediate surfer.
